President Donald Trump had something to say to the media who were running old pictures and video of the border fence at the beach at Tijuana, Mexico. He said they were leaving something out of the pictures which has since been added.
And people trying to climb over are not going to be happy with this.
There are thousands of migrants now in Tijuana waiting to get into the United States and thousands more expected in the coming weeks expected in multiple caravans. Up to 10,000 are expected in the various caravans.
It’s not clear how long it would take to process the asylum claims of the backlog. It could take months. And most wouldn’t qualify because they are not in danger of their lives but simply coming for economic reasons.
Residents in Tijuana who are used to being a waypoint were not happy to be so overwhelmed. Hundreds marched against the migrants describing it as an “invasion” and saying the “Trump was right’ about protecting borders. They called upon Mexico to stop this from continuing.
Because of the overwhelming numbers of people expected to arrive in the coming days, the Department of Homeland Security has shut down a number of lanes at major ports of entry in order to ensure an orderly process.
From Daily Caller:
Homeland security officials shut down all northbound lanes at the San Ysidro port of entry early Monday morning, after receiving reports that caravan migrants were planning to rush the border and cross illegally, U.S. officials said.
Port operations were suspended for just over three hours while border authorities, supported by military personnel deployed to the area, carried out “hardening efforts” at the facility, according to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
“This AM, all of #SanYsidro Port of Entry’s northbound lanes were temporarily closed to initiate additional port hardening efforts after @CBP officials were notified that a large # of caravan migrants were planning to rush the border in an attempt to gain illegal access to the US,” Nielsen wrote on Twitter.
It wouldn’t be surprising if migrants did try to do that as they effectively did that to Mexico which was one of the reasons they were able to get in.
In addition to California, troops were also busy elsewhere such as in helping to set up fencing and wire in Texas.
100 or so American troops from the 19th Engineer Battalion from Fort Knox, Kentucky worked on that fencing.
