This must be the weekend for truly silly takes about guns from those on the left.
First, there was Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell who proposed a gun confiscation plan, with prosecution for those who refused to turn over their guns. Then when challenged on it, when he was told people might fight that, his response was that the government has nukes and it would be a short war.
Yet, he’s still in office and no MSM outlet has chastised him for literally suggesting nuking people who don’t want their guns confiscated. He claimed he was “joking.” Imagine if President Donald Trump had made such a “joke.” And Swalwell has pretensions of running in 2020 for president.
But Nina Burleigh who writes for Newsweek apparently didn’t want Swalwell to sit alone in the “I’m ignorant about guns” box. So she offered her own sterling take on the matter.
“Almost every single person I’ve ever heard of with an AR-15 has been a mass murderer. Based on Twitter sample the rest of them are scarily paranoid. Get on the right side of history @DLoesch @Rambobiggs #gunsense”
It’s tough to match the stupidity of the nuke tweet, but she may have just done it.
Burleigh also infamously said in the past, “I would be happy to give him a blowjob just to thank him for keeping abortion legal. I think American women should be lining up with their Presidential kneepads on to show their gratitude for keeping the theocracy off our backs.”
People were quick to school Burleigh.
But a serious point.
One of the reasons this ignorance persists is because people like Burleigh write and push propaganda demonizing the AR-15. So deal with that whenever you see that by informing people that it’s not a machine gun. It’s a rifle that fires one bullet per trigger pull, the most popular rifle in the country by some estimates (which may be why you see it in some mass murders). But most murders are committed with handguns. And murders, in general, are rarely committed by rifle and an even smaller subset are done with an AR-15.
And another thing always missing in the arguments is that thousands if not millions of lives saved because people do have guns for self-defense, including their AR1-5s.
Here’s a person who Nina Burleigh needs to know. This is Stephen Willeford, former NRA Instructor who stopped the Sutherland Springs shooter from killing more people at the church because he came on the run in his bare feet with his AR-15 and had the skill and ability to shoot him in the side opening of his bulletproof vest, helping to end the carnage.
