Democrats frequently claim that no one is calling for the government to take your guns. This while they do everything to push restrictive laws to restrict Americans’ rights. And they are threatening to take your guns and one Democrat isn’t being shy about admitting it.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), who has said he is considering running for President in 2020, proposed outlawing “military-style semiautomatic assault weapons” and forcing existing owners to sell their weapons or face prosecution.
There would be no exemption for people owning existing firearms, they would be forced to give them up, under his proposal.
In a USA Today op-ed entitled “Ban assault weapons, buy them back, go after resisters,” Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., argued Thursday that prior proposals to ban assault weapons “would leave millions of assault weapons in our communities for decades to come.”
Swalwell proposes that the government should offer up to $1,000 for every weapon covered by a new ban, estimating that it would take $15 billion to buy back roughly 15 million weapons — and “criminally prosecute any who choose to defy [the buyback] by keeping their weapons.”
In the past, Democrats and gun safety groups have carefully resisted proposals that could be interpreted as “gun confiscation,” a concept gun rights groups have often invoked as part of a slippery slope argument against more modest proposals like universal background checks.
Swalwell argues that people have been too deferential to the Second Amendment.
“There’s something new and different about the surviving Parkland high schoolers’ demands,” he wrote. “They dismiss the moral equivalence we’ve made for far too long regarding the Second Amendment. I’ve been guilty of it myself, telling constituents and reporters that ‘we can protect the Second Amendment and protect lives.’”
Instead, he writes, “the right to live is supreme over any other.”
So, bye bye, Second Amendment, you don’t count because Democrats say you don’t count. Ignore the Consitutional right and ignore the millions of lives that guns have saved.
He wants to an Australia mandatory buyback which basically outlawed guns with some exceptions. “Australia got it right,” Swalwell wrote.
Swalwell was challenged about his call to confiscate guns on Twitter and it got even worse.
Joe Biggs challenged him, saying that trying to confiscate guns from millions of law-abiding citizens could lead to a war. Check the absolutely horrific response from Swalwell:
Wait, what? You’re going to nuke Oklahoma because they wouldn’t let you illegally take their guns?
Oh, that’s a sane response. And this guy is a sitting U.S. congressman who wants to be president in 2020. Yikes!
