Social Media VP Weighs In On Russian Meddling: Swaying Election NOT Main Goal – It Was To Divide America

On Friday, Special Counsel Robert Mueller dolled out indictments against 13 Russian individuals and 3 Russian corporations. The charges included conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft, CNN reports.

There has been a tremendous reaction to the indictments online, with many people split as to what real impact these Russian entities made to the 2016 presidential election: some people seem to believe the purchasing of social media advertisements and the strategic messaging was enough to have an effect on some voters, others believe it did not.

Vice President for Facebook advertisements Rob Goldman worked closely with the Russian investigation by providing information concerning Russian “bots” use of social media advertisements concerning the 2016 presidential election to the FBI.

Goldman said, “I can say very definitively that swaying the election was not the main goal.”
