CNN Cites Wild Story For Cooper’s Anti-Trump Tweet, No One Believes It

CNN has been forced to play damage control following a tweet from CNN host Anderson Cooper’s Twitter account calling President Donald Trump a “pathetic loser.”

They initially claimed the Twitter account was hacked, but subsequently changed their story to say the tweet was posted from an assistant’s phone.

But, the assistant did not make the post, Washington Examiner reports, he simply left his phone accessible for someone else to do it:

The network said in a statement it confirmed using geolocation tools the tweet, which called Trump a “pathetic loser” and a “tool,” was sent from New York. Cooper was in Washington, D.C., at the time.

The tweet was sent from a phone that belongs to Cooper’s longtime assistant, CNN said.

The assistant left the phone “unlocked and unattended” while at the gym on Wednesday morning, and CNN said an unknown person took the phone and posted the tweet.

Only Cooper and the assistant, who has worked with the host for more than 10 years, have access to Cooper’s Twitter account.

Some people are still skeptical over the story.

A Washington Examiner opinion piece wrote:

Someone at the gym recognized Cooper’s assistant, grabbed his phone, which happened to be both unattended and unlocked, went to Twitter and replied to a Trump tweet with an insult so lukewarm it would be laughed out of a middle school locker room?

It sure feels like CNN is trying to sell us a banana. #FactsFirst
